A Lacquer Needle Case, Late 19th Century
Aside from their intended function of holding needles, needle cases were traditionally a woman’s dowry item. This lovely needle case is of two pieces, and forms an orchid when put together. It is made from paper, polishes with lacquer, and adorned with painted butterfly and plant on both sides. Marvelous condition.
Length: 4 inch (10 cm)
