A Boxwood Toggle, Mid – Late 19th Century
A Boxwood scenic toggle, carved from a solid piece of boxwood in square form of a veranda with incised decorated domed canopy, back wall, side railing and rock foundation with front steps, containing a woman free standing on center wearing a long sleeved robe flanked by two standing boy attendants, one holding a fan, the other behind a stool holding a vase, the roof with one hold on center for the cord attachment. The hidden meaning of this scene is “Zhu Ping An”, which means “wishes you safe”.
Excellent condition and patina.
